About the What to Eat Wheel
Nobody can decide, everyone says “I don’t mind”, and forty minutes later you are still hungry. A food wheel ends that loop by taking the decision away from the table. The point is not that the wheel knows best — it is that any answer beats another round of “what do you fancy?”
Why deciding what to eat is so hard
The problem is not a lack of options, it is too many. Faced with every cuisine in the city, people stall — and the more equally appealing the choices, the longer the stall. Psychologists call it choice overload; you know it as standing in the kitchen with the fridge open.
Groups make it worse. Everyone softens their preference to seem easy-going, so nobody states one, and the group converges on nothing. A wheel breaks the deadlock because the result arrives from outside the social negotiation. Nobody has to be the one who insisted.
Make the wheel match your actual options
The default list is cuisines, which works for picking a restaurant. For cooking at home, replace it with the meals you actually know how to make — a wheel of ten real dinners you can cook tonight is far more useful than one listing Thai when you have no curry paste.
Other lists worth building: the takeaways that deliver to you, the five lunch places near the office, the meals your children will actually eat. Press Use as my wheel and the list stays in your browser for next time.
Use it to plan, not just to pick
Spin five times on a Sunday and you have the week’s dinners, which also makes the shopping list write itself. Remove each result before the next spin so you do not get the same meal twice.
It also works as a nudge out of a rut. If you eat the same four things every week, put six new ones on the wheel alongside them and let chance do the convincing.
Perfect for
- Deciding what to eat for lunch or dinner when nobody can choose
- Planning meals for the week ahead
- Picking a restaurant or cuisine for a group outing
- Trying something new instead of the usual order
How to use this wheel
Check the list. Remove anything that doesn’t apply and add your own options in the panel.
Spin. Press SPIN or the Space bar. Use Fullscreen to show it to a room or on a stream.
Keep going. Remove the winner to go again without repeats, or tally how often each option comes up.

What to Eat? questions
How do I decide what to eat when I cannot choose?
Put your realistic options on the wheel and spin. The value is in committing to the result — if you spin again until you get the answer you wanted, you have simply discovered your preference, which is also useful.
Can I add my own meals or restaurants?
Yes. Clear the wheel and type your own list, one per line. Use it for the takeaways that deliver to you, the meals you can actually cook, or the places near your office.
Can I use it to plan a whole week?
Yes. Spin once per day and remove each result before spinning again, so you get seven different meals rather than the same one repeatedly.
Does it work for picking a restaurant with a group?
That is where it works best. Because the answer comes from the wheel rather than from a person, nobody has to push their preference and nobody gets blamed for the choice.
Can I make some meals more likely than others?
Yes — turn on Weights in the options panel, or simply add a favourite twice so it takes up two slices.
